Project Management, Design & Construction of Emergency Gantry Crane Installation

Project Detail

In 2025, Grays Rescue was engaged to project manage, design, and deliver a new gantry crane as part of an emergency business relocation following a major fire event. With the client needing to resume operations rapidly, the pressure for fast turnaround was significant — but so was the need to ensure the new facility could safely accommodate the crane infrastructure.

The reality is well known across the industry: the crane sector is often plagued by “cowboy” practices, with some installers willing to overlook structural limitations, position cranes on lightweight steelwork, or impose point loads onto slabs never engineered to carry them. These shortcuts may reduce upfront time and cost, but they introduce severe long-term risks — from structural damage to catastrophic failure.

Grays Rescue was engaged to ensure none of these risks were accepted.

Our team led the project end-to-end, including:

  • Full structural due diligence to validate load paths and ensure compliance with engineering standards
  • Design coordination to integrate the crane safely into a facility never originally intended to house such equipment
  • Oversight of the crane installation, ensuring all works met engineering, safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Stakeholder and contractor management, particularly where proposed shortcuts from the crane supplier conflicted with safe and compliant installation practices

Thanks to rigorous project governance and a safety-first approach, Grays Rescue delivered a fully certified, structurally sound gantry crane installation that allowed the client to resume operations without compromising safety or long-term asset integrity.

Where others may be willing to take risks, Grays Rescue ensures the job is done right — the first time.
